Evening Makeup Practice

So last night at my school www.chicstudiosnyc.com, we practiced evening makeup on each other!  Here's my classmate Lauren working on pretty dramatic eyes on me.  We used some pretty fancy Mac Teal pigments and pack them on the lids, and some dark brown in the outer corners.  A bright white shimmery color in the inner corner, and Lauren used a warm brown in the outer part of my crease.  Then we packed on black in the outer corner, and blended into the crease.  Last but not least, concealer in the brow bone area to make it pop, and our Instructor Ruthie Weems put some Mac Mineralize SkinFinish in the brow bone area to create some shimmer!

Good job Lauren!!  It was a good practice.  The picture from my phone really doesn't do the real thing justice.  It looked awesome in person!

We only had time to do Lauren's eyes, but I did a smokey brown purple look.  I didn't even get to Mascara but here's my picture!  It wasn't finished but the next step, I would have blended out the outer corner with Mac Face and Body to soften the edges!

How to Properly Prep Skin Before Makeup

Here's how pro makeup aitists properly prep the skin before makeup application. I learned this at my makeup school: http://www.chicstudiosnyc.com

Keep a couple of things in mind. This is how professional makeup artists prep skin on clients. We have to be 1) hygenic (which means disposable everything) so hence the cotton, q tip etc. 2) There may not sink and water where we are working. So rinsing maynot be an option so therefore have to rinse with a cotton soaked with water. So at home, you can obviously rinse with water instead.

My First Makeup Model

Everyone please meet my good friend Amy! She volunteered to be my model at my makeup school www.chicstudiosnyc.com. (Please note that my flash on my phone made her face appear lighter than her body.)
Here's what we did. It was a simple day time look. What's challenging is matching the exact foundation color as well as concealer color. After we found the correct shade and applied color correcting, foundation then concealer, I powdered all over her face. Then I filled in her brows using a powder one shade lighter than her hair color. After using Mac's Painterly Paint Pot as an eye base, I applied a taupey shadow all over her lid, applied a light brown in her crease, and blended in a light concealer under her browbone. I also brightened the inner corner of her eyes with a shimmery white color.
Then I used a brown shadow as liner on her upper lid and purple mixed with brown on her lower liner. Then it was mascara, pretty pink blush and a nice natural lips. She looked so pretty!!

My Makeup Station

So most of you know by now that I'm taking makeup classes at Chic Studios NYC (www.ChicStudiosNYC.com) and I'm loving it. The classes are so helpful and I'm learning so much.
Here's a picture of my makeup station right before my first makeover on my first model in school! I was so happy because it was pretty easy to match her foundation. She was a perfect Mac Face and Body N1. I did forget to do my color correcting on her... Oops! That's ok! You learn by doing and making mistakes!

NEW Covergirl Intense ShadowBlast

Spotted these Covergirl Intense ShadowBlast recently!  This is interesting because Covergirl is billing this as a primer or shadow base.  Here's what it says on the website: "Discover rich, waterproof eyeshadows with a built-in primer for color that lasts — in 6 intensely beautiful shades."

NYC has how many Mascaras??

 Now just how many mascaras does NYC produce?  Well at this local Drugstore, I found at least 6 and I think there are more.  Each one has a different function it seems.  The yellow on give you more lash lift.

 Volumizing and Defining!  And it even tells you that it's 70% more lift and 10x the volume.  How did they measure exactly?

 What?  Only 8x fuller lashes?  LOL

 Oh this is getting worse.  Now it's only 60% lift?  What happened to the 70%?

 Now this one is waterproof volume.

 And it lengthens too!!

They are all only $2-4.  Anyone tried these and can you tell me if you got 60? or 70% life or curl?  (Maybe it was just 55%!  LOL)

NEW Revlon Grow Luscious Lash Liner

 Now I have seen the  Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara for awhile now.  I haven't tried it since there are all kinds of mascara like that where it claims to make your lashes grow.  Some of these mascaras include Wet n Wild, and Rimmel ( I have reviewed the Rimmel one).  So now they come out with Revlon Grow Luscious Lash Liner.  Are these Liners really going to make your lashes longer?  That's the question.  But regardless, I am liking the colors they come out with.  It comes in 4 colors including Onyx, Expresso, Graphite, Emerald.  

Here's what it says  on the website:

"Delivers ultra intense color impact in one stroke. Botanical and vitamin rich formula nourishes and supports healthy lashes."

It costs $9.79 at CVS.   The "word" on the internet is that it's comparable to Urban Decay 24/7 and that it lasts for hours.  And the colors are very pigmented

NEW Revlon Age Defying with DNA Advantage Foundation

 

 I found this new Revlon Age Defying DNA Foundation recently at CVS!  It's pretty expensive for a drugstore foundation.  It's $14.99 at CVS!   It comes in 8 shades.

Here's what it says on the website:

"NEW Revlon Age Defying with DNA Advantage Cream Makeup combines makeup + powerful anti-aging skincare to help protect skin's DNA to fight the signs of aging. 96% of women saw flawless, younger-looking skin in two weeks. Lines and wrinkles are visibly diminished while skin is refreshed, hydrated, revitalized. SPF 20"

Well to my surprise, they had a tester in store.  So I quickly tried it out.  It's very creamy, and it blends efforlessly into the skin.  I was actually quite impressed!  In terms of its anti aging claim, one would have to see after trying it for awhile.  As for me, I have enough foundation to use up, plus I will have to wait until there's a good sale!  15 bucks seems steep for me for a drugstore foundation.

My New Haircut

Look I got a new haircut. I had to cut about an inch off an half off my hair because the split ends were out of control!! So I was sad to see so much cut off but my hairdresser decided to cheer me up by curling the ends of my hair. He taught me how to do it so I can show you girls later!!! I love love how it came out! You like?
